Baiyun district in Guiyang – capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province – in the last five years has focused on projects to improve people's livelihoods.

Through these projects, Baiyun has achieved a stable growth in terms of investment in fixed assets.

In 2020, the number of major community projects hit 60 with a total investment of 145.8 billion yuan ($22.15 billion). In addition, 13.47 billion yuan of investment was achieved in the first nine months, which accounted for 97.33 percent of Baiyun's full-year target.

By comparison, in 2016, Baiyun's 22 projects received a total investment of 39.6 million yuan, exceeding the annual target by more than 20 percent. Projects included construction of flood discharge channels in the Gaoshan River and new bus passenger stations.

The number of provincial projects expanded from 38 to 63 between 2017 and 2019, with a total actual investment of 15.92 million yuan in 2017, increasing to 17 billion yuan in 2019.

During these years, some people-oriented projects were put into operation, such as a complex building in the Baiyun branch of Guizhou Medical University, the Nanhu Experimental Middle School and a comprehensive treatment program for the Maijia river.

Through those efforts, Baiyun ranked first in the year-end assessment of provincial major projects among municipal cities, allowing local citizens enjoy a strong sense of gain, happiness and security.
