The Baiyun district in Guiyang -- capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province -- is reportedly making every effort to boost its new urbanization development.

Over a five-year period, Baiyun district has totally renovated 1.1 million square meters of shanty towns, 1.27 million sq m of old communities, 60 back streets and alleys, and established 55 community parks.

As a result, the appearance of the urban and rural areas in Baiyun district is widely said to have been greatly enhanced.

During the period, Baiyun district has issued and implemented its "Special Plan for the Reconstruction of Shanty Areas and Old Communities", and it also launched a three-year action program to upgrade its back streets and alleys.

To make it all happen, the district has focused on the principle of "clean environment, beautiful facade, complete facilities, convenient life and effective management".

It is understood that Baiyun district has made concerted efforts to renovate and upgrade the infrastructure of aging communities. It has improved the water supply and drainage, as well as the power supply, gas supply, heating and fire protection, and installed an integrated pipe network.

Meanwhile, efforts have also been made to upgrade the green areas and lighting of residential communities. The initiative has also included upgrading or constructing facilities for the elderly, barrier-free facilities, cultural and leisure facilities, sports and fitness facilities.

This year, Baiyun district plans to renovate 4,706 households in shanty towns and 2,400 households in four old residential communities.
