The development of an ecological civilization in the Baiyun district of Guiyang – capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province – reportedly saw major progress last year, with the forest coverage rate and the urban green coverage rate reaching 46.18 percent and 48.28 percent, respectively.

The days rated as having good or excellent air quality in Baiyun hit 99.2 percent in 2021, helping the district in its bid to achieve bluer skies and clearer water.

During the year, Baiyun restored 350 mu (23.33 hectares) of natural resources and it directed eight open-pit mines in the district to rejuvenate 695 mu of their area.

Additionally, 1,195 mu of private diggings and illegal mining areas were restored.
