Baiyun district in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, recently launched a work plan to improve grain yields in 2022.
According to the plan, in 2022, Baiyun strives to develop 17,200 mu (1,146.67 hectares) of grain crops and a total output of 5,300 metric tons.
The plan states that the yield per unit of rice should increase from 430 kg to 445 kg, corn should increase from 305 kg to 325 kg, and potatoes should increase from 350 kg to 366 kg.
Baiyun hopes to increase the coverage of fine varieties and planting density, promote high-yield cultivation techniques and scientific fertilization techniques, and strengthen prevention of major pests and diseases and natural disaster response.
The district will also cultivate new business entities and encourage agricultural enterprises to participate in grain production.
This year, five large grain-growing households will be cultivated, including three households in Niuchang township, one household in Maijia town, and one in Shawen town.
