The Baiyun district of Guiyang -- capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province -- has embarked on rapid economic and social development, as it chases the goals of high-quality development and ecological civilization construction.
Over the past five years, the annual GDP of Baiyun district has topped 25 billion yuan ($3.75 billion) and the appearance of its urban and rural areas is said to have greatly improved.
Meanwhile, the total length of urban and rural roads in the district has exceeded 500 kilometers, while the built-up central urban area has expanded from 22.91 square kilometers to 40 sq km.

Elsewhere, great results have been delivered in environmental protection, with 83 ecology parks established and the district's forest coverage rate reaching 46.18 percent.
Moreover, people's livelihoods and well-being are said to have improved in an all-round way. The cumulative investment in people's livelihoods over the past five years reached 9.41 billion yuan, accounting for 67.7 percent of total fiscal expenditure.
