Closely following the tenet "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets", Wayao village is these days diligently boosting the integrated development of its agriculture, culture and tourism.

The village – administered by the Baiyun district of Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province – is home to around 600 people in 168 households.

In the past, its young people worked in cities as migrant workers, while the older ones stayed at home to farm.

Making full use of its advantages of possessing a great environment, abundant forest resources and the rich culture of the local Bouyei ethnic group, Wayao village has developed the Penglai Wonderland Scenic Area.

Elsewhere, the village has brought in the Guizhou Huanyu Xingnong Smart Agriculture Technology Co to build a smart agricultural park there.

The first phase of the project plans to plant more than 100 mu (6.67 hectares) of fine fruit trees and establish tea, mushroom and flower cultivation areas.

Meanwhile, areas for fish farming in rice fields, chicken farming in the forests, camping and tourist farming experiences will be planned and developed.

The company is responsible for the capital investment, product development and sales, management and operations, as well as the planting and breeding projects in the park.

The local cooperative is taking charge of the land and human resources, with the villagers transferring land and investing in shares, to receive a 20 percent dividend annually.

So far, the fine fruit tree cultivation area was established at the start of the year and is undergoing daily management and maintenance.
