Baiyun district gets to work cleaning up its rural areas

The Baiyun district of Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has made great progress in cleaning up its rural areas with an extensive public work program.

Efforts have been made by Baiyun to standardize housing construction, strengthen its water pollution controls, ensure drinking water safety, improve garbage recycling and advance improvements to rural toilets.

Since the start of the year, 172 illegal buildings in rural areas have been rectified, and work on 345 rural houses has started to renovate their style and appearance.

So far, village planning for Dianshan village in Shawen town and Wayao village in Niuchang township has been completed.

Meanwhile, Baiyun has completed an on-the-spot investigation for an upgrade to the water pipe networks in Gaoshan village, Liuzhuang village, Jianpo village and Bailong village in Yanshanhong town.

The clean-up of black and malodorous bodies of water in Penglai village has been completed and in Qingshan village this process is currently underway.

In terms of garbage collection and recycling, Baiyun has built and put into use four garbage collection stations in Maijia town, Shawen town, Niuchang township and Dula township – with the aim to achieve full coverage of dry garbage collection points in 244 villages each with more than 30 households.

Elsewhere, construction of harmless sanitary toilets in 989 households has started in Baiyun, with construction in 562 households having been completed.
