To improve the living environment in rural areas, the Baiyun district of Guiyang – capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province – has undertaken a raft of measures to promote the management of and work on housing under its jurisdiction.
Under a plan that's been drafted, Baiyun will expand work to boost the security of rural housing, continuing to improve the style and appearance of rural houses and do a good job in the control of illegal construction in rural areas.
This will include renovation of the waterproofing of existing rural houses, exterior walls, and courtyards, as well as the construction of support facilities – such as public roads, rain and sewage pipe networks, street lighting and landscaping.
Other work will include guiding villagers to standardize their stacking of firewood piles, farm tools, other sundry items and garbage storage.
To date, the demolition, reconstruction and facade renovation of 373 rural houses, as well as the upgrading and renovation of 182 auxiliary houses in the district, is making steady progress.
