Baiyun achieves great economic, social achievements in 2022

Editor's note: Baiyun district in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, made strong economic and social development achievements in 2022. Highlights are as follows:

Economic development

In the first three quarters of 2022, the GDP of Baiyun district reached 18.67 billion yuan ($2.67 billion), a year-on-year increase of 3.5 percent, higher than the averages for Guiyang city and Guizhou province.

Industrial transformation and upgrading

In 2022, the total industrial output value above designated size in the district came in at 18.91 billion yuan, 638,000 square meters of new standard workshops were built, and 15 new enterprises were established.

Urban economy development

In 2022, Baiyun introduced eight headquarters economy projects, two of which were new headquarters economy enterprises, and built 70,000 sq m of commercial buildings. The number of market entities in the district reached 40,700, a year-on-year increase of 12.62 percent.

Agricultural breakthroughs

Last year, the grain planting area in Baiyun reached 21,300 mu, while 44.12 million pieces of edible fungi and 43,700 mu of vegetables were planted.

In 2022, the total agricultural output value is estimated to have reached 1.14 billion yuan, a growth rate of 4.2 percent.

Modern service industry and digital economy development

In 2022, Baiyun district added 13 new tourism enterprises above the designated size and received 667,600 overnight tourists.

Meanwhile, during the same period, Baiyun introduced 17 digital economy enterprises and built three 5G application scenario projects.

Urban planning and construction

In 2022, Baiyun built 3.47 square kilometers of sponge city project and its permanent population increased to 482,700, with an urbanization rate of 91.71 percent. The built-up area of the central urban area reached 42 sq km.

Urban infrastructure such as water, electricity, roads, gas and telecommunications was improved, the construction of tram line T2 was accelerated, and the construction of five indemnificatory rental housing projects with 3,104 units and rooms was launched.

In 2022, Baiyun built or renovated 17.9 kilometers of water supply piping, 20.24 km of rainwater piping, 20.67 km of sewage piping, and 8.67 km of gas piping.

Also, 1,070 public rental houses were built, while the resettlement housing area in the district reached 216,800 sq m.

Elsewhere, in 2022, the daily treatment capacity of urban domestic sewage in Baiyun increased to 150,000 metric tons, construction of the Caoguan Garbage Sorting Center was completed, and a total of 274,710 sq m of illegal buildings were demolished.

Ecological protection

In 2022, Baiyun added 170,000 sq m of urban green space. The water quality compliance rate of centralized drinking water sources in the district reached 100 percent, the good air quality rate reached 98.6 percent, and the forest coverage rate reached 46.18 percent.

People's livelihoods

In 2022, Baiyun completed the construction of six parking lots, 2,040 parking spaces, and two agricultural supermarkets.

Another 4,445 houses from old residential communities, 2,455 houses from shantytowns, and 30 back streets and alleys were renovated.

Moreover, 1,050 rural houses were renovated, 48 rural domestic sewage treatment facilities were constructed, and the treatment rate of rural domestic sewage in Baiyun reached 100 percent.

Additionally, in 2022, Baiyun added 10,285 new urban jobs; built, renovated and expanded 10 primary and secondary kindergartens, and the number of beds in medical institutions in the district increased to 81,000.
