Baiyun sub-district focuses on elderly and child livelihoods

Quanhu sub-district in Baiyun district, Guiyang, has continuously strengthened measures to ensure quality care for the elderly and children this year, resolutely safeguarding their livelihoods.

To provide quality care for the elderly, Quanhu sub-district has optimized various elderly care services. For example, it has carried out home-based and age-friendly renovations for 13 households with special elderly hardships. In addition, the daycare center's community canteen has provided meal assistance to over 500 elderly individuals.

The sub-district and its 12 communities have established senior schools with a 100 percent coverage rate and over 200 new participants in 2024. More than 2,000 elderly individuals participated in interest courses such as music, dance, antique appraisal, and tai chi.

Quanhu sub-district has also expanded inclusive childcare services and enhanced the coverage of public kindergartens. The area has added two private inclusive kindergartens, one public kindergarten, and one public primary school, with five registered childcare institutions and 428 childcare slots.

The sub-district continuously strengthens social support for the elderly and children, especially focusing on left-behind children and elderly individuals without family support. Various volunteer service activities have been conducted through the civilization practice stations to build a strong social support network.

Volunteers from Quanhu have become regular and familiar faces to the residents, and mutual visits and interactions have become the norm. This has filled the void of companionship for the elderly and children, creating a high-quality living environment for them in the sub-district.
