The government of Niuchang township in Baiyun district, Guiyang, has constructed the Penglai Village Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) Activity Square, marking the establishment of a provincial-level base for the preservation and promotion of the Penglai local opera The Generals of the Yang Family.

This site will serve as the main venue for local opera performances and training while meeting the cultural activity needs of the local people.

The square now features sculptures of the Yang family's generals, a local opera corridor, the ancient site of Yongxing Temple, bronze drum reliefs, and the Penglai stone tablets.

To ensure the construction of the ICH square, local leaders made multiple site visits to provide guidance, gather historical materials, and write relevant introductions. Over 1.35 million yuan ($184,136) was raised from various sources.

During the construction process, the 2024 Bouyei ethnic celebration for the 6th day of the 6th lunar month was held at the site. It attracted over 80 cultural teams and nearly 10,000 visitors.

A grand ceremony inaugurated the ICH square, featuring a ritual and the opening performance of The Generals of the Yang Family. Officials and ICH inheritors cut the ribbon to celebrate the square's establishment.

The newly completed square is not only a new landmark for Penglai village, but, more importantly, it offers robust support for preserving and promoting The Generals of the Yang Family.
